The Shelburne, who knew?

This native New Yorker can still be surprised in her hometown! That's what I discovered when I checked out the Shelburne Hotel Murray Hill, set among the gracious 19th century brownstones of historic Murray Hill. I used to live 3 blocks away - for years, mind you - and had no idea what a great hangout this hotel is.

Its Rare View Rooftop Garden fits its bill as one of NYC's best kept secrets. I made one of my best friends who lives just around the corner come join me for a drink  and  she'd never been there either! One look at the hot crowd of people lounging on the roof, drinking fantastic mojitos and taking in the amazing views of the Empire State Building and the Manhattan skyline on one of those ideal NY summer nights and we thought 'where have we been?' Okay, in my defense, I do live in LA now, but I still hate to think I'm out loop!
My producer in LA didn't understand why the Rare Bar & Grill promotes the fact that it tops it's burgers with cheese from Murray's Cheese shop. But locals know that Murray's is the place to buy cheese in the city and so it says a lot! But whether you've heard of Murray's before or not, all I have to say is rock-my world delicious!
